The Last Supper

This is here mostly for historical accounts, but you have to admit, for those who are very into food and its history, it is very intriguing.  Even if not, it is probably the most significant meal for so many of us who are of the Christian faith, as it changed the world.  What even fewer realize is that the Last Supper was actually a Passover Seder which celebrated the exodus of the Jewish slaves of Egypt.

We know what went on at the last supper, all we need to do is go to any Roman Catholic church on any given Sunday to find out.  And we can be sure of one other thing: we know that both bread and wine was on the table some 2000 years ago.  I will go out on a limb and also say there were definitely grapes on the table as well.  There is also the sacrificial lamb, often just a lamb shank, but lamb just the same.

We really cannot rely on Leonardo da Vinci's depiction above, because it was more about the people, and the setting, rather than the food.
