Italian Researchers Discover Protein Which
Regulates Tumor Growth

Silvia Sodu and Ada Sacchi, two researchers from the Regina Elena Institute in Rome, discovered a naturally-occuring protein that is capable of regulating the p53 protein which had already been documented. This protein is capable of switching on various sets of genes in a well-known mechanism that forces cells to destroy themselves rather than become cancerous. The two molecular biologists named their new discovery the HIPK2 protein. Their findings will be published in the upcoming issue of "Nature", in the Cancer and Cell Biology Review section.
