Dictionary Of Old Italian To Go Online
The word "elevator" was first defined in a 14th century translation of the Bible as "One who gets on and off a horse or carriage." This is one of the many fascinating tidbits that can be found in Italy's first online dictionary dedicated to word meanings used in the time of Dante. About 18 million words and all of their secrets can now be easily accessed by students and researchers. The Italian Vocabulary Institute of the National Research Council (CNR) has announced that it is putting 20 years worth of research on the web. The online dictionary was made possible because of a study begun in the 1960s by the Crusca Academy and the CNR.
