Fasanella at Museum in Coopertown NY
Greetings:
In my continuing effort to carry on activity in which I have engaged, for several years, I herewith wish to provide information about several very outstanding Italian-Americans.
In doing so, I hope also to call into question the recent misinformation that appeared on the H-ITAM net, to wit: "But not one of these self-appointed champions of I-A reputation ever notices, applauds or encourages such individual efforts. They're too busy watching TV and yelling at the screen."
Several years ago I posted a piece on the Albany Area Sons of Italy www site, at the address: www.capital.net/~soialban/itamarts.html
In that essay, I featured a number of Italian-Americans who have made a mark in the world of graphic arts.
I recently circulated information about one of the artists featured in that essay, John Recco. I pointed out that John is now being exhibited in the Katharina Rich Perlow Galleries, 57th St., NYC. See capital.net/~soialban/johnpaint.jpg
But now to RALPH FASANELLA.
Fasanella would make a great story, a biography, or even a movie... From gas station attendent to world renowned painter.Fasanella unquestionably has earned the well-deserved recognition that is given to him. A section of the itamarts essay offers a brief account of his outstanding career as a painter. Those few words cannot do justice to his diligence, his humanitarian orientation, and his accomplished career as a painter.
Anyone who visits Ellis Island will see his fabulous painting FAMILY SUPPER. It portrays an Italian-American immigrant family, in 1928, gathered around the dinner table in their Little Italy apartment. A beatutiful representation of Italian American immigrant life -- deemed fine enough to represent all immigrant life in its Ellis Island display. And, clearly "filiopietistic" -- there is no doubt about his showing honor to his father and to Italian-American family life.
A small digital reproduction can not do it justice, but to gain a perspective see:
Ralph Fasanella
The Fenimore Art Museum, Cooperstown, NY is now featuring a retrospective of more than forty of Ralph Fasanella's paintings. The exhibition will go on
from April 1 to December 30. Currently The Art Museum will be open from Tuesday to Saturday (inclusive), from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Fenimore
Museum can be reached by phone at 1-888-547-1450. Unfortunately, though The Museum maintains a WWW site at www.fenimoreartmuseum.org I could find nothing about Ralph Fasanella's exhibition on their www site.
Ralph was a true and dedicated baseball fan, so it is a fortunate and fortuitous circumstance to feature his work in Cooperstown, home of The Baseball Hall of Fame (which, as is well known, has a nice representation of Italian-American Baseball Hall of Famers).
A visit to Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, in itself, is worthwhile.
A visit in order to attend the exhibition of Ralph Fasanella's work also, in itself, is worth a visit to Cooperstown.
Then, if one plans it correctly, one can also attend an Italian opera at the Glimmerglass Opera house....
Can one have more fun.... ????????????
