Italic Studies Institute: "Image Research Project":
Italian Culture on Film (1928-2001)

The Italic Studies Institute recently completed a five-year study (1996-2001) that documents and tracks the Italian-American gangster stereotype in Hollywood films.

The institute, which reviewed 1,220 of the Italian-related American-made movies made since 1928, found that 40 percent of them depicted Italian Americans as gangsters.

Italian Americans were portrayed as gangsters in 487 films, and only 58 of those movies were based on real characters, such as Al Capone. The  other 429 gangster films were based on fictional characters, the group said.

Close to 300 movies featuring Italian Americans as criminals have been produced since the success of "The Godfather" (1972) the report said, an  average of nine mob movies a year over the past 29 years.

That Italic Studies Institute Project was reported at DiversityInc.Com

The PRINCETON REPORT is a Very Important Document, however it is available only in PRINT from The Commission of Social Justice of the Order of Sons of Italy.

Unfortunately the Report is not yet available on the WEB.

Hopefully this oversight will soon be corrected.
