Insult To Italians
By Joseph Scafetta, Jr.

08/18/2001 - - (The Washington Post,FINAL ,Page A19)

I was appalled to read the headline "Italy's Dons of Industry Retool for a Global Era" [Business, Aug. 10]. The second paragraph starts off talking about the "godfather of the drawing room."

This story was about legitimate businessmen, not Mafia gangsters. If German businessmen were meeting, would the title read: "Germany's Nazis of Industry Retool" with the second paragraph talking about the "Fuehrer" of the group? Likewise, if southern U.S. businessmen were meeting, would the title refer to the "South's Klan" and the "grand wizard" in charge? I would hope not!

The title and the opening are gratuitous insults to a group of honest, law-abiding Italian entrepreneurs.
