ITALICS can also be seen on CUNY-TV Ch.75, on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at 8:00pm and on Sunday, April 29, 2001 at 10:00am

First on ITALICS, we take you on a virtual journey through Italy and Sicily with an exhibit titled "Italian Landscapes: Different Sites and

New Perceptions" by Italian artist Salvo Cuccia. The exhibit is a multimedia interactive, video installation that includes 36 photographs and 4 video screens of Italian landscapes. The four large video screens create a panoramic view of Sicily and eleven other regions of Italy. The video screens feature images of both the ancient and modern world of Italy.

The exhibit is a collaboration between the Regions of Sicily, Calabria, Sardegna, and Queens College, John D.Calandra Italian American Institute, as well as, Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimo of New York University. The Consulate General of Italy in New York organized the installation.

Then ITALICS attends a conference titled "Fascism, Anti-Fascism and the Italian American Community", in commemoration of radical, anti-Fascist labor leader Carlo Tresca. The conference explores the negativity that surfaced around the Italian American community from the early 1920's to the end of WWII, dividing a nation of Italians in America. Carlo Tresca fought hard against Mussolini's regime and quickly became known as the leader of the anti-Fascist movement. Tresca raised funds for people under political persecution. Tresca died before he was able to see the 1943 fall of Mussolini and his death in 1945. Carlo Tresca was shot to death outside his Il Martello office on January 11, 1943.
