Italy's Roberto Plano Wins Cleveland International Piano Competition

CLEVELAND (AP) - Italy's Roberto Plano won the $15,000 top prize in the Cleveland International Piano Competition, which attracted 53 performers from 24 countries to the Cleveland Institute of Music and Severance Hall.

Plano, 23, who performed Beethoven's ``Piano Concerto No. 3,'' also won a New York recital debut, a recording session, two years of free management and a series of concert engagements.

Minsoo Sohn, 25, of Korea, finished second and won $10,000, and Turkey's Ozgur Aydin, 28, won the $7,500 third-place prize in the 10-day competition that ended last Saturday night.

The trio was featured in a winners' concert Sunday.
