Roman Catholic Resources: Patron
Saints
St. Zita
Patron Saint of Maids & Domestic Workers & Lost Keys
Feast Day Celebrated on April 27
Born in 1218 - - - Died April 27, 1278
Born in Lucca, Italy, Zita is also known as Sitha and Citha. She came from
a poor, but devotional family. The lack of social standing is probably
the reason Zita's last name has not been recorded in history. To help support
the family, she became a maid of a wealthy family, Fatinelli, serving them
loyally for 48 years. She had always given beggars food from their
cupboard during the famine, and once on Christmas Eve, she gave a prized
family heirloom which was a cloak to a freezing old man. The man eventually
returned the cloak.
